As an editor, I've learned to mentor both my writers and help out my fellow editors. I joined the editing team late in the process, so I was hesitant about altering a friend's writing, but through the encouragement of the senior editors, I soon became comfortable in my role as peer advisor. I carried that encouragement while coaching the sophomore editing interns, who would become the new junior editors.

I also worked with other writers to compile graphics packages for our online news site, reporting national news stories with a local angle, and with more dynamic coverage. I primarily organize the research, writing, and graphics, as well as mentor anyone who is having trouble with any particular software. I hope that by leading this type of coverage, I can inspire other writers to include more multimedia in their articles, if not create these packages themselves, and expand the type of coverage Scot Scoop is capable of.
